Charles L. Chatmon is an author, educator, and Black literary essayist documenting Black life, history, and community in Los Angeles and beyond. As the former Executive Director of the L.A. Black Book Expo and the current director of the AC Bilbrew Writers Workshop, he has spent more than two decades uplifting independent writers and preserving the cultural narratives that shape Black America. His work blends journalism, social commentary, and storytelling, appearing in community publications, literary platforms, and digital media.
Chatmon’s upcoming novel, The World Is a Ghetto (Fall 2026), explores gang life, survival, and the human cost of urban conflict through a gritty, noir‑influenced lens. His essays examine media, culture, and the lived experiences of Black communities, offering historical insight and contemporary relevance.
